20 domestic workers trained in crime safety

HONEYDEW – The Honeydew Police held another day of successful Domestic Watch training on 9 March.

With the majority of people travelling to their places of work every day, the domestic workers they employ become the eyes and ears of the community.

The Honeydew police, in conjunction with the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF), Beagle Watch, and the Panorama and Devon Valley residents associations, held another day of successful Domestic Watch training on 9 March.

Honeydew CPF’s Jon Rosenberg said the training session aimed to equip local domestic workers with the skills needed to stay safe during an incident of crime, helping to prevent crime and protect themselves, their families, friends, neighbours and employers.

He added, “It was great to see so many employers letting their staff attend, to come and learn the dos and don’ts when they are at home.”

The Honeydew police were on hand to provide the 20 domestic workers with much-needed insight and safety tips.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “Once again, we would like to thank Warrant Officer Makura for his help at the Domestic Watch training today. It is a fantastic initiative that more communities should be following in ensuring the safety of our domestic workers.”

Rosenberg added, “We would like to extend a great thank you to members from Honeydew SAPS for your insight, as well as all others involved in this initiative.”
