Curro Aurora in Sundowner participated in a variety of ways at the 17th national Cansa Shavathon. Learners from the pre-preparatory of Curro Castle to the high school joined in to raise awareness, funds and continue research into all facets of the disease. The learners sprayed, shaved, braided and donated their time and hair for the cause.
The school had their Grade 11 and matric learners volunteer to help with the various stations where learners were given the opportunity to spray paint their hair, adorn it with ribbons, trim it or shave it completely.
The Shavathon formed part of the school’s ‘Blue Pride’ week which is a celebration of the school’s pride and spirit. The Cansa event was well-received by the school and ran from 9am in the morning throughout the day. Community members who worked in the area were also in attendance to support the cause like hairstylist Eric Von Brandis who made his way to the school to assist with cutting and shaving hair.
