BizBrand Jam inspires the youth

BORDEAUX – Vega School hosted about eight high schools to an event that would teach them about brands and their importance.

Grade 11 and 12 learners from various school around our communities gathered at Vega School to take part in BizBrand Jam.

The goal of the event was to provide learners with a glimpse into the working world and guide them on what they can expect after high school. Vega had previously hosted a similar event last year that was quite successful and saw it necessary to host another this year.

Campus navigator, Francois Barnardo, said they invited business management learners from these high schools to give them a taste of what healthy, purposeful brand is as well as a business simulation. “The business simulation is an online game where we teach learners the implications of various factors within their business and this helps them understand that business environment.”

This programme is said to usually be used by executives to teach them management skills and how every element makes and impact on the business. In this case, they modified the programme slightly for the learners to adapt to.

It was important for Vega to host this event as they want to break the perception that they are just a school of design. “We also a school of brand and brand business and this is to really help these Grade 11 and 12 learners and [provide an] alternative to traditional tertiary studies to give them an opportunity to study at a school that thinks differently and understands the impact of brand and brand business of the organisation.”

Barnardo hoped the learners took home with the understanding and experience of what a healthy is brand and how brands have the responsibility to be purposeful and make a difference in our communities and to start interacting with brands that are healthy and give to the community.
