House robbers sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each

RANDBURG – Two robbers were recently sentenced in the Randburg Magistrates' Court for a crime committed in 2016.

The Randburg Magistrates Court recently sentenced Lehlohonolo Ludwick Makwela and Mokoena Joseph Aubrey to 15 years’ imprisonment each for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said that on 25 August 2016 a domestic worker at a house situated in St George Street in Kengsington B was busy with her duties when she was confronted by the suspects.

The suspects threatened her with a firearm, tied her up with dress ties, and pushed her against the wall while she was on the ground.

Her mouth was also closed using the ties to stop her from screaming.

The suspects then stole items from the house and fled the scene.

A case of house robbery was registered and assigned to Detective Constable Lungelani Mtshali who investigated the case and ensured that the suspects were brought in to face the law.

The duo was arrested a few months later after a thorough investigation.

They remained in custody throughout their trial.

Apart from the 15-year sentences, they were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
