Local gospel musician shares birthday meal with homeless

RANDBURG – Bheki Masiya shares a birthday meal with homeless people along Malibongwe Drive.

Bheki Masiya’s spreading of the gospel is not only limited to church and concerts but also going to the world and preaching to every creature.

To celebrate his 37th birthday, Bheki Masiya gathered 72 homeless people from the streets of Randburg and shared a meal with them, which had been prepared to celebrate his special day.

“That is how we spread love to one another. We give because we love. The Book of John 3:16 in the Bible reads: For God so loved the world that He gave,” said Masiya.

Masiya together with his team went out into Randburg, and along the R512 Malibongwe Drive, and invited the men and women who normally live on what they receive from passers-by, if not from refuse, to a home-cooked meal.

“I was raised by a single parent who showed strength in only carrying my sister and I until matric. Afterwards, we had to plan for our own progression in life. It was then that I met someone, who I believe was sent by God, to assist me with furthering my tertiary studies. He said to me, after I asked the cost, ‘Do to others what was done to you’.

“What I got from this was that, I should populate the expression of love to others who are in need of it,” said Masiya.

He also noted that, just as he was surprised by the act of the good Samaritan who came to his life, the men and women on the streets were also caught off-guard by the extension of his invitation.

“This is how I want to celebrate my birthday from now on. I believe I can do even better; something that will add memorable value to an individual’s life.”

“The experience is fulfilling. It’s always a good move to listen to God’s voice. Also, in allowing God to use you as a vessel, someone’s prayer is answered.”

In 2018 Masiya was crowned the Best National Male Artist at the 5th Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards (MGOMA). Last year, his song ‘Igama’ was nominated for Song of the Year at the MGOMA.
