Local man invests in the youth

COSMO CITY – Cosmo City resident, goes an extra mile to help the youth.

On 25 January the Sir Gabriel Centre for Excellence has scheduled a motivational seminar for youth in Cosmo City Ext 4. The event idea emerged when the founder of Sir Gabriel Centre for Excellence Gabriel Ndlovu felt that he could do more to inspire the youth in the area, beyond his after-school programme.

When stakeholders in the area caught wind of the concept, he was given permission to host the event at the Multipurpose Centre. An entrance-free event which was originally meant for 500 people grew exponentially in the short space of a few weeks. It was then when Ndlovu collaborated with non-profit organisation NSH Youth Empowerment run by Nosipho Hashe.

The NPO has orchestrated many youth-based competitions and events all over Randburg such as Mr and Miss Cosmo. Although Hashe’s insight into what is needed to execute a successful event has come in handy, Ndlovu still finds himself short of money and other resources for the event.

Currently, the event will host six speakers, two learners who will perform a poem and speech respectively and one parent representative. A stakeholder in education was still required at the time of the interview. Ndlovu’s goal was to host three of these events throughout the year as a constant reminder to the youth in the area to live lives of integrity and realise their dreams. He has appealed to the community at large to get involved beyond the compliments which he often receives for his concept – with community involvement Ndlovu believes a significant difference can be made in the lives of many young people.

The event is targeted at youth in the area after Ndlovu felt that he could do more to keep the youth off the streets and focused on their futures.

“The whole idea is to motivate these kids… We want to play that parenting role.”
