Police help to make Zandspruit safer

ZANDSPRUIT – Gauteng police urged the community not to engage in criminal activity and to report crime to the police.

Members of the Gauteng police descended on Zandspruit in their numbers as part of operation Okae Molau on 12 December.

District Commander Major General Max Masha said the purpose of the day was to flood the area with police officers to show a presence in the fight against crime during the festive season and beyond. “Our main aim for today is to reach out to our community and say that we are here for you and speak to us, especially on issues that we are not aware of. We will be flushing out crime in the area and our intention for the area is to make sure that any criminal presence is eradicated when we are here.”

Officers conducted stop-and-searches randomly, looking for drugs, weapons and other contraband. Officers also raided shebeens to make sure that they were not being run illegally. “During the festive season we up our game. The crime rate naturally increases during this time of year, and it is for this reason that we are increasing our presence to match.”
