Magic beings make art

JUKSKEI PARK – Children of Magic Being Nursery School hosted their parents to their first-ever Art in the Garden Exhibition.

Vincent van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo – these are some of the world’s most admired artists. Apart from the shared talent of being able to transform a blank canvas to magic, these artists became famous because they were steadfast on being true to themselves.

Much like the children of Magic Beings Nursery School who, at the school’s first-ever Art in the Garden Exhibition showcased their one-of-a-kind art pieces.

The school’s principal, Sharon Konstantinou said, “Our children worked hard to produce the art, we did process-based art where the end product is not as important as the children having fun.”

She added that the children’s beautiful creations were on sale to parents to show the children just how valuable their art is all while making them proud of the art they had produced. “Each class also did a group art piece and through this they learned how to communicate and work together to accomplish a mutual goal.” These collaborative art pieces were auctioned off to the parents.

This evening was also to educate the parents, because, according to Konstantinou, many are accustomed to their child bringing a perfect art piece home which is usually done by the teacher and not the child. The overall theme of the event was the use of recycled materials and, along with this, each class had a unique theme. As guests and parents made their way through the garden, they dove into an under-the-sea mural as currents lead them to a Nelson Mandela mural. Just when they thought they had seen it all, a gust of wind sent them right into space where they saw paintings of the moon and stars to have gravity bring them down to earth to find comfort on a bed of lovely paintings of sunflowers.

Konstantinou explained that artwork from the school’s youngest through to their five-year-olds lined the garden and was a way to show the progression of art through the varying ages. Through the creation of the art pieces, which took about two weeks, children were also able to further develop their fine motor skills.

To the parents, Konstantinou hoped they realised the hard work their child put into and what they are capable to achieve if they are allowed to explore.
