Douglasdale Police Station was pleased to welcome their new Station Commander, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum.
Arikum has been a member of the police for two years shy of three decades and has accepted the position with excitement and faith in her new team.
She recalled how as a child, teachers and parents exclaimed, ‘This child is crazy’ when she would be assertive. Arikum has always believed in a brighter South Africa and has been pleased to serve in a police force which has been ‘more compassionate, caring and loving’. She added that ‘all [her] dreams from childhood came true’.
She expressed her faith in the Douglasdale police due to their track record. The station has been praised for their exceptional front line service office where community members come from all over Johannesburg to be assisted by their staff.
“I know I am going to succeed with their support.”
Arikum has promised fair treatment under her leadership, as she emphasised that everyone should be treated fairly in the eyes of the law. She also encouraged community members to work with the police to minimise crime in the area.
She spoke of their festive season action plan which was implemented on 1 September.
