Three armed suspects behind bars

LINDEN – Officers searched a suspicious vehicle finding an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and housebreaking tools.

Linden Police Station commander Colonel Ahmed Musthan has applauded the arrest of three armed suspects after officers searched their vehicle finding an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and housebreaking tools.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said officers were patrolling the area around Boundary Road in the late afternoon of 5 September when they saw a suspicious white Toyota Etios hatchback.

Matumba added that the windows of the car were heavily tinted.

When the suspects noticed the police, the suspects turned left into Short Street before officers pulled them over.

Matumba said, “The officers asked the suspects to step out of their vehicle so that they could search the car and the suspects.

“One suspect was carrying a bag on his shoulder containing an unlicensed Norico firearm and ammunition.”

When the officers searched the rest of the vehicle, they discovered a black bag with suspected housebreaking implements including an improvised screwdriver, bolt cutters, gloves and a balaclava.

Officers established that the registration plate of the vehicle did not match that on the vehicle’s licence.

Musthan commended the officers in spotting the suspicious vehicle and arresting the suspects.
