Sweet treats for a cause
CRESTA – Join Cupcakes of Hope on 28 September to raise awareness for National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer.
Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit and public benefit organisation which has raised money for families who cannot afford to pay for their medical bills. The organisation was founded by Sandy Cipriano who is based in Ballito. Lisa Blignaut is a volunteer and the coordinator of the Cresta task team, one of 88 malls where Cupcakes of Hope has taken root, in honour of National Cupcake Day 4 Kids With Cancer 2019.
Blignaut explained how she found Cupcakes of Hope, “[Blignaut was] fund-raising for Baby Reef Carneson who was diagnosed at just five months old with high-risk infant All (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) – he became a beneficiary of Cupcakes of Hope and by the time he immigrated to the US for advanced treatment, Cupcakes of Hope was firmly planted in my heart. This is my eighth year of involvement at Cresta and I look forward to plenty more.”
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and also the month where Cupcakes of Hope hosts its largest event of the year, National Cupcake Day 4 Kids With Cancer on 28 September. Blignaut has encouraged those who are interested in getting involved with the Cresta task team, to get involved by contacting her on lisa@krazypair.co.za

There are a few rules in place which need to be acknowledged by every baker prior to bringing their cupcakes. For eager community members who aren’t bakers, visits to Cresta anytime from 9am on 28 September are welcome. Visitors are invited to make an R10 donation for a delicious cupcake.
Founder Cipriano added, “Thank you to every single baker, volunteer, and donor who has supported Cupcakes of Hope, your donation enables us to assist about 70 patients every month by paying for their medical and other day-to-day expenses. By supporting Cupcakes of Hope you are supporting children fighting cancer because they don’t deserve to fight this battle alone.”
