Why you should live in Randburg

RANDBURG – The suburb of Randburg has become something spectacular in the space of 60 years.

The once vacant farmland, which had one stop street on the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Hendrik Werwoerd Drive (now Bram Fischer), has developed into a metropolitan area which boasts some of the most beautiful houses. From one of the original 20s farm houses, Hy-Many House, to current day complexes and townhouses, Randburg has shown an unparalleled appetite for growth. Development began to boom in 1950, when there were less than 9 000 inhabitants. Ten years later, there were 13 townships, a newspaper called Noord-Nuus and shops and businesses were opening apace. The last 12 years in particular has seen a significant shift, according to realtor and owner of Flynn Estates Brian Charlebois. Charlebois said that the property market changed dramatically with the world’s economy falling apart in 2007/2008. He maintains that Randburg is one of the best places to live in the province, due to being in close proximity to many employment opportunities. In the first ten years of developing the suburb, 7 336 buildings were built. This came at a cost of R80 000 000, and consistently prioritised pedestrians as well as motorists. Randburg began as its own separate city with its own municipality in 1959, and is now an integral part of Johannesburg.
