Bongani Ngobeni is an emerging artist on the rise

BLAIRGOWRIE – Emerging artist Bongani Ngobeni is an art student on a mission to encourage appreciation and understanding of art.

Bongani Ngobeni began his voyage into the world of art as early as seven years old. Born and bred in Polokwane, Limpopo, the artist made his way to the City of Gold in 2017 to study towards an Art and Design diploma at Central Johannesburg College (CJC).

Ngobeni is one of the emerging artists who have been guided through the Young Artistic Future Mentorship Programme run by the Touch of Genius Gallery, located in Blairgowrie.

Ngobeni recalled that his journey to mixed media began with a paper and pencil. The artist and student expressed that he ‘doesn’t ever want to limit’ himself when it comes to his art and capabilities. This is why he gravitated towards a mixture of modern and traditional mediums of art production. The multitalented Ngobeni has also dabbled in music production.

The 23 year old is clearly inclined to creative modes of expression and is determined to play his part in encouraging the public’s ‘understanding and appreciation’ of the art world and what it has to offer.

Ngobeni has exhibited at both Assemblage and Back to the City, which were opportunities he grabbed with both hands when exposed to them through attending CJC. The emerging artist has a great deal to be proud of, being part of such exhibitions while he completed his tertiary qualification, although he remains calm and humble. He has one subject credit and an internship to complete his degree. In the years that follow, he mused that he wished to open his own art and design company and move out of residency.
