The Randpark Ridge Village Association is keeping our parks safe and clean
The Randpark Ridge Village Association has made a resolution for an improved state of the 2km park which runs between their homes.
The park starts close to where Seder Road intersects with Molope Road, all the way to Essenhout Park which forms the greater part of the RRVA’s responsibility. The clean-up and maintenance group worked in collaboration with City Parks to keep Hymany Park safe and clean.
The lush greenery which runs in-between the residential area in Randpark has apparently been a site for ‘crime and vagrants’ in the past.
Wayne Kets of the RRVA shared his passion for an improved community, beginning with Hymany Park. “We are actually just giving the municipality a helping hand – we can’t do what they do because it is too big.”
The park is owned by City Parks and is classified as an underdeveloped park, which Kets explained meant that it is cut every 90 days. “Our main vision is first to always look at security, but to clean up the parks and make them user friendly.”
The funds paid by 500 residents to the RRVA for security in the area allows the RRVA to allocate the remaining funds to maintain the park, and cut the greenery every 30 days, install updated cameras and clean up off-cuts among other projects. The park’s upkeep and the safety of the surrounding homes go hand in hand.
“What we’re trying to do is uplift the area, so people can enjoy the park,” explained Kets.
The RRVA works with three men whose job requires them to pick up litter, clean out drains and carry out any responsibility which has to do with the maintenance of the park.
“I have been in this area 29 years and I felt that if you don’t get involved, who will?” elaborated Kets. After a month, the park seems well kept, and Kets stated that since it is an ongoing project, they do nothing without a nod from City Parks.
