Celestial Knights hold trials

PRAEGVILLE – The final junior trials for the Celestial Knights are held at Randburg Cricket Club.

Everything was for grabs when the Celestial Knights held their final trials for junior cricketers at Randburg Cricket Club on 12 May.

The event, entitled Knights Day, saw U12s, U14s, U16s and U19s give everything they had while bowling and batting in the nets, before the U21s and senior division had their own showcase in the afternoon.

“The main thing we are looking for at our trials is for the batters to show a bit of flair and to try hit some balls out of the ground, and for the bowlers to limit the damage they could find themselves being put under,” said Celestial Knights player and co-owner, Matthew Arnold.

“We’ve seen a lot of that today, a lot of good things, it made our decision-making a bit harder picking the U12 side but we are very excited.”

Mental coach and co-owner Jody Martins explained that the club plays in the Lenasia Premiere League along with five other franchises in the senior competition and seven other franchises in the junior competition.

“We’ve done really well in those competitions over the last couple of years and we’re pretty excited about this year and definitely the talent that is on show behind us,” Martins said.

Arnold encouraged the community to stay in touch with the franchise, which is based at Randburg Cricket Club, by following them on Facebook and Instagram.

Martins concluded, “We’re in it to win it as always, however, with these young boys their development and their ability to grow themselves over their time with us is what we are really looking for and the wins are always great.”
