One fatality after Beyers Naude accident

RANDPARK RIDGE - Police are investigating the cause of the accident in which one person died.

One person has died after an accident between a taxi and another motor vehicle on the corner of Beyers Naude Drive and CR Swart Drive in the early hours of 10 January.

According to ER24 paramedic Tyron Pieterse who was first on the scene at around 5.18am, 16 people were injured, with four in critical condition.

Pieterse said, “The injuries ranged from moderate to minor. There were only adults in the taxi and there were no youngsters.”

Pieterse said patients were transferred to various hospitals in the area.

“One patient was declared dead on the scene and the road was closed for about an hour and a half. The driver from the second vehicle was transported to hospital with only minor injuries. The Police are busy investigating to find out what the cause of the accident was,” Pieterse added.

A few minutes after the Randburg Sun arrived on scene the Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services arrived to take the deceased person’s body away.

It has been reported that the driver of the taxi may have fled from the scene, but Randburg Sun has not yet been able to confirm this with local police.
