RANDBURG – Through the operation, six suspects were arrested for allegedly stabbing a security officer.

Operation Buya Mtheto had police around the Johannesburg cluster and their other counterparts in the law enforcement agency embark on the crime prevention drive in the Randburg policing area.

The operation included K9, crime prevention officers, detective members and Gauteng traffic department police officers. The purpose of the operation was to deal with the contact crimes around the area and their generators, while the detectives were busy searching out the possible suspects in the cases.

Captain Makgowanyana Maja of Randburg Police Station said a few suspects were arrested for crimes including fraud, reckless and negligent driving, housebreaking and theft, 24 fines were also issued by the Gauteng traffic department and one was taxi impounded.

“Several liquor outlets were also attended to for compliances. Such operations will be held randomly across the cluster in order to create a safer environment for the community,” he said.

Maja added that as the week progressed, further arrests were made by Randburg visible policing members where six suspects were arrested after allegedly stabbing the security officer at one of the liquor outlets with some knives several times.

Maja concluded that with the festive season approaching, they appeal to the community to join hands with them to fight crime.
