Councillor engaging with City to address road concerns

RANDBURG – Ward 102 councillor David Potter has reassured residents that their concerns about road markings will not go unheard.

Following concerns received related to the resurfacing and remarking of both Jan Smuts Avenue and Republic Road, Ward 102 councillor David Potter has given an update regarding the situation.

Some of the concerns residents have raised mainly include dirty, faded, or no road markings.

Potter said that he has had multiple engagements with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to address these concerns.

Since the road resurfacing took place in various places in the Randburg and Sandton area in May and June, the JRA has taken steps to address problems with the reinstatement of road markings, which included reduced lanes and no road markings at various intersections.

On 17 September, senior managers within the JRA conducted a visual inspection of both Jan Smuts Avenue and Republic Road with ward councillors in the area.

Concerns were noted on site with Potter, which he says the JRA has committed to resolving.

Potter said, “A site meeting was requested for early October, but will be pushed out to mid-October should the concerns raised not be adequately resolved.”

Roads and intersections of concern include:

  • The intersection of Jan Smuts Avenue and Conrad Drive
  • Jan Smuts Avenue from Randburg to Hyde Park
  • The intersection of Jan Smuts and Buckingham avenues
  • Roads surrounding the Valley Shopping Centre
  • Roads surrounding Burnside Island.
