Windsor Action Group wants to ensure residents are protected

WINDSOR – The action group aims to tackle issues such as complexes that not comply with minimum standards head-on.

A focus meeting for estate and managing agents was recently held by Windsor Action Group.

The group had invited 53 people representing estate and managing agents who operate in the Windsor area, unfortunately, only three representatives pitched.

The idea for the meeting was to introduce them to the group and its strategy for the year.

Karen Olivier, deputy chair of the group said they’d identified all these agents to be key partners in their drive to educate and empower the residents while improving the area.

“We aim to get them to participate in our monthly meetings and area cleanup. We also want them to be area captains who will report any issues for instance overcrowding, infringement of by-laws among others.”

With the two recent fires the community has faced, they want to work with the managing agents to ensure buildings comply and residents are protected.

Olivier said it is really sad that most people perceive the area to be just a way to make money and do not care to work with them to enhance and improve it.

The group is tackling some key aspects head on and complexes that do not comply with minimum standards can expect a letter from them.

“This is then escalated to the councillor and urban inspector for action,” Olivier said, adding that illegal advertisers get a special note from them to inform them that what they are doing is against the law.

Infrastructure in the area gets audited on a monthly basis and of special concern are the large number of street lights not working and stop signs that disappear.

“Despite the fact that we continue to report this nothing is done about it,” said Olivier.

She stated if they work with all key partners they can make a difference and improve the area and if everybody works together, a lot can be done.

“Together we can make a difference.”
