Radley Primary awakens the artists within their learners

FERNDALE – Radley Primary School hosted its second Annual Art Auction that left the parents shocked at the level of talent each child possessed.

Radley Primary School hosted its second Annual Art Auction where parents had the opportunity to bid on works of art created by their children.

Foundation Phase HOD, Kayleigh Phir said such annual events are important for the learners so they know the school is not just about academics, but also about the development of their natural skills and talents.

Various artworks were done by the children of Radley Primary School for its second Annual Art Auction.

She feels it is important for children to participate in the arts, especially when they are younger as it helps improve their motor skills and helps with their cognitive development by handling things like paintbrushes, pencils and crayons.

“Perhaps even more importantly, art provides a creative outlet that makes children feel good and also helps to boost their self-confidence.”

The entire school participated in the evening which does not always have a theme, but classes sometimes decide to follow one while some children just create their own works of art.

Phir said, “The power of the arts in education is that it allows one to have self-expression, provides stress relief and can be therapeutic. All of which are important to learning and education.

“On the night the school was happy to see the turnout and support of friends and families of their learners which was accompanied by the pride the children showed when they saw their works on display.

The reactions of the art was mostly that of sheer awe. The parents could not believe their child could create such amazing works of art.”

The time it took each child to complete their art varied as it depended on the art piece.

“We have been working on the auction pieces since the beginning of the term,” said Phir.

There was also a variety of paintings, drawings, collaging and a few sculptures for parents to marvel over.

She hoped children took from the night a sense of pride as it is very important for the children to know they are talented and that their talents can lead to rewards.
