If you are ever in the mood for smashing a tennis ball then head on down to the Boskruin Tennis Club.
The club is one of the most active tennis clubs in Joburg, with 150 members and tennis played every day on its eight floodlit courts.
It is also open to outsiders and welcomes visitors who come by unannounced for a spontaneous set or two.
In fact, only members are allowed to book courts in advance.
Everyone else plays on a first-come-first-serve basis for only R30 per person and R40 per hour if the floodlights need to be used.

It’s a great time to visit the club as Junior Club Championships have just started and the seniors will begin in October.
“Our club is 25 years old and has always been run well by a strong committee,” said vice chairperson and head coach, Wayne Kets
He said the club was entirely self-funded but spends loads of money on maintenance to keep everything in order and the club popular.
He encouraged anyone interested in giving tennis a try to phone him or pay a visit.
“We have three leagues for men and women held throughout the year – summer, winter and spring leagues. Tennis is great because of the exercise and social connections that make it even more fun.”

Social tennis is played on Saturdays between 12pm and 2pm for juniors, and between 2pm and 6pm for seniors.
Every Tuesday afternoon and evening social tennis is held alongside a bring and braai.
Four professional coaches train players young and old, whether just starting out or advanced in their skill.
Both private and group lessons are held.
