Keep your vehicle in mind when partying

LINDEN – Don't neglect your vehicle security.

Hosting a party or braai at home and inviting friends for a good time can be cost-effective.

But unfortunately, parking space can be a problem and loved ones are forced to park in the street.

This increases the risk of their vehicles being stolen or property inside of the vehicles to be taken. Linden Police Station’s Captain Alex Vermaak has urged the community to hire a guard or security to keep an eye on the vehicles.

“During parties, hire someone who will look after your vehicles while everyone is inside having a good time,” said Vermaak. “Although police do patrol, it might not be clear if there is anything suspicious to investigate.”

Here are a few tips to ensure your vehicle is safer:

  • Always lock your doors
  • Roll up and lock your windows before exiting your vehicle
  • Do not leave valuables in plain sight
  • When putting valuables in your boot, do not do so in full view, instead do so before arriving at your destination
  • When returning to your vehicle, do so in a group if possible
  • When approaching your vehicle look inside before entering to make sure there are no unwanted occupants. After entering, lock all doors.
