Always know where your child is

LINDEN – He also requested parents to know what establishments their children frequented.

Captain Alex Vermaak of Linden Police Station has warned parents to take better care of their children.

This comes after the police received calls from parents in the community complaining that their underage children were frequenting bars and nightclubs.

“Parents are and still remain responsible for their children whether they are in Grade 9 or whatever age they are,” said Vermaak.

“If you allow them to go to bars and clubs when they are underage, you must not come and cry to the police. I sometimes get calls from parents telling us their children are at clubs and asking the police to do something about it.”

He also requested parents to know where their children were at all times and what establishments they frequented, and whether they were child-friendly.

“Some of these young children carry falsified identity documents to enter a club and bar. We cannot expect a bouncer at the door to know it’s falsified because they don’t work at Home Affairs. I expect parents to look after their children.”

For real emergencies, contact the station on 011 888 9299.
