IN TWEETS: Zimbabwe awaits a new leader following historic vote
ZIMBABWE – Who will be the country's next president?
Scores made their way to polling stations across the country to cast their votes for a new dawn in the form of a new president.
Even though voting officially ended at 7pm last night, no voters were turned away in provinces that still had citizens queuing for their opportunity to make their voices heard through the ballot.
As the country tallies up the votes, social media has been abuzz with predictions, concerns about free and fair counting and some anxiously awaiting the announcement of their new leader.
Reportedly, the money is on the young Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai (MDC-T) leader, the 40-year-old Nelson Chamisa who most believe is the fresh blood the unstable country needs; while some are of the belief that things should remain the same and are opting for Zanu PF’s third president of Zimbabwe, 75-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Both took to Twitter earlier claiming victory but it still remains to be seen who will be Zimbabwe’s next leader.
