A full day of charity for Beanies for Beings

RANDBURG – A full day of activities took place for Beanies for Beings on Mandela Day.

Local charity group Beanies for Beings was inundated with donations to distribute on Mandela Day.

The organisation received a number of donations from schools and businesses to help with their Mandela Day activities.

The organisation’s Megan Botha said, “We don’t have sufficient words of gratitude for Reddford House Northcliff.

We received two carloads full of non-perishable food for distribution to those who are in need.

“We were also so blessed by The Green School in Chartwell North for choosing us to distribute their Mandela Day collection. To all the staff, children and parents, thank you so much for this wonderful donation and well done on surpassing your target of 67 items each.

“The Nova Pioneer in Paulshof gave a wonderful donation of 125 sandwiches for Mandela Day.”

The organisation was also invited by St Stithians College to join the school in their Mandela Day celebrations. At the school, Beanies for Beings, Rays of Hope and Growing Champions were blessed with many donations.

Botha said, “The generosity of what was collected, the spirit in which the pupils gave, the sermon and tributes to Mandela, reminded me why I am proudly South African.”

The boys and girls preparatory schools handed over 67 outfits of children’s clothing, over 60 toiletry packs and 30 blankets to the charities.

Botha continued, “Thank you so much to everyone involved in facilitating today’s celebration, and thank you for choosing us as the vessel to distribute much-needed items to those less fortunate.”

Beanies for Beings donated over 160 items to Ark Animal Centre for their new charity shop that will be opening soon.

That was followed by a visit to the children of Zamokuhle Aftercare in Zandspruit, who were excited to receive sandwiches to eat at school, and a pack of sandwiches and muffins to take home.

After that, the organisation travelled to an event with 67 vulnerable children in the Lion Park area.

Botha said, “Lion Park Primary welcomed us on to their premises and set up seating, tables, and more, for us to celebrate Mandela’s 100th birthday in true Madiba style, caring for our children.”

Beanies for Beings also delivered various donated goods to many other charities including Mother of Peace, the MOTH, Warrior Shell-hole in Krugersdorp, and 401 children’s Books were donated

to Witkoppen Primary School for their library.
