Mercedes Benz driver found safe after Linden kidnap

LINDEN – A victim was hijacked and kidnapped outside a shop on 5th Street.

A victim was allegedly kidnapped after a hijacking took place outside a shop on 5th Street in Linden on 1 May.

Linden Police Station spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba confirmed that the driver of a luxury silver Mercedes Benz was said to have been held at gunpoint in his car and kidnapped.

At 7.45pm, the driver of an app based metered taxi service  stopped at a shop on the corner of 4th Avenue and 5th Street to ask for directions as he was struggling to get back to Rosebank.

Matumba said, “He was then approached by three… males and was threatened with a firearm. He was forced to get into the back seat of his car.”

The suspects allegedly drove away with the victim still inside the vehicle.

Matumba continued, “They covered his face so that he could not see where they were going… They then dropped him off at Southgate Shopping Centre and drove away with his car, including his two cellphones.”

No injuries were reported.
