Hoogland is the place to be for action sports

HOOGLAND – Northlands Production Park is home to a fun-filled action sports arena.

Action cricket is alive and well in Randburg.

The Northlands Production Park, Hoogland, is home to the Fourways Action Sports Arena, where action cricket, netball, soccer and even dodgeball are played.

Here, action sport enthusiasts play games week in and week out, and also watch the matches from the fully kitted diner and bar.

Arena director, Matthew Meintjes invited anyone interested in trying one of the sports to come along, and bring their children with too, as there are jumping castles and kiddies tables and chairs with colouring books, always made safe by the ever-watchful staff.

The most popular sport at the venue, action cricket, sees a whopping 84 teams play every week in four different leagues.

Three league seasons are played every year and while the first 10-week season kicked off in March, it is not too late to register a team to play.

“Action cricket is fast, fun, good for hand-eye coordination and excellent for developing ball skills with youngsters,” said Meintjes.

He added that the game was not weather dependent and was great for improving fitness.

On the evening of 6 April, several thrilling matches were played out. One saw Hits and Misses bat first against Palm Trees, mustering 83 runs off their 16 overs.

But Palm Trees proved too good when they batted, not losing many wickets (losing a wicket deducts runs from the total score) and running quickly between the wickets.

They amassed 162 runs, winning three of the four skins (runs scored by batting partnerships).
