Randburg man fined R6 000 for assault GBH

RANDBURG – The suspect pulled out the screwdriver and stabbed the victim in the hand. As he tried to stab him further, some of the other employees intervened and stopped him

Viveiras Raymond Mark (56) has been fined R6 000 or two months’ imprisonment, suspended for three years, in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for assault with intent to do grievously body harm.

According to Captain Makgowanya Maja, spokesperson for the Randburg police, the victim was at work on 11 November 2016, when he was approached by the suspect, alleging that his radio was not working. He tried to punch him but the victim managed to evade the punch.

“The suspect pulled out the screwdriver and stabbed the victim in the hand. As he tried to stab him further, on the upper body, some of the other employees intervened and stopped him,” said Maja.

The case docket was registered and assigned to the detectives for further investigation.

The suspect was later arrested and went through court proceedings.

“We would like to urge members of the community to resolve any misunderstanding in a peaceful manner, rather than engaging in violent fights which later cause distress, either through deaths or the person being arrested,” concluded Maja.
