Gauteng to launch mobile APP for all public transport modes

JOBURG – App expected to help commuters travel seamlessly.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will on Thursday, 15 March, launch the Gauteng on the Move mobile application (app) for all public transport modes.

“We are already seeing the power of technology that every day is reshaping public transport services, marketing and consumption. The global technological changes we are currently witnessing are sparking a revolution in the transport sector,” said Vadi.

The app is aimed at providing commuters with real-time, accurate public transit information; timetables, as well as fares for Gauteng-based public transit operators. These include Gautrain, A re Yeng,  Rea Vaya, Metrorail, Gautrain Bus Services, Johannesburg City Sightseeing, minibus taxis, long-distance buses and the Tshwane Bus Services.

The application will also allow users to plan their journeys with the option to select desired transport modes, travel times as well as criteria specific to travel modes.

“We will, therefore, use innovation, research and development emanating from the Fourth Industrial Revolution to promote a smart province to improve efficiency and access to services. This will be pursued through strategic investments in ICT infrastructure,” added Vadi.

Details and demonstration of the app’s functionality will take place at the Mobility Seminar at T-Systems South Africa in Midrand.
