Keep yourself safe on the road

HONEYDEW – Pedestrian safety in the spotlight.

The Honeydew Police Station has urged pedestrians to be alert and take responsibility for their safety while walking on the roads.

Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan also pleaded with drivers to be alert and be aware of pedestrians.

According to the captain, the nation continues to lose more people to road accidents, especially involving pedestrians.

To ensure that pedestrians get home safely, here are a few tips:

  • Do not drink alcohol and walk
  • Do not wear dark clothing at night
  • Do not walk on the freeway, it is unlawful to do so
  • Do not cross the road without looking right first, then left and right again
  • Do not cross the road just anywhere, always try to find a pedestrian crossing
  • Do not be absent-minded when walking near the road, always be alert
  • Do not walk on the roadway because this space is reserved for motorists, pedestrians must stick to the sidewalk
  • Do not attempt to outrun a vehicle across the freeway, rather use a pedestrian footbridge
  • Do not hitchhike next to busy roads and freeways as this exposes one to being knocked down by a speeding vehicle.
