Join the fun and goodwill at Randridge Mall’s Shavathon

RANDPARK RIDGE – Cansa Shavathon is just a day away.

The Cancer Association of South Africa’s (Cansa) Shavathon is one of the country’s biggest events in showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

Shaving one’s head at a Cansa Shavathon has become a symbol of support for survivors from the community, as losing hair is a common side effect of cancer therapy.

Hair colouring has also become an option for those who do not want to shave their hair off on the day.

This year marks the 15th annual Cansa Shavathon which will be held in shopping centres and malls across the country on 24 February.

Randridge Mall is one of the venues the event will take place in, in partnership with Hot 91.9FM, and will be set up at the Woolworths court.

Mark Pilgrim, a cancer survivor and radio presenter, will host his show at the mall and share his story with listeners while playing the best in all music genres. The mall is pulling out all the stops to ensure shoppers revel in the atmosphere of giving and supporting those who need it the most.

Those who want to add a personal touch to their support can do so and buy a block of cloth which will become a Hopeez blanket.

On the block, one can put their hand print with fabric paint on the cloth and write their name and a message of hope. The blocks of cloth will then be sewn together into blankets called Hopeez and will be donated to young cancer patients.

The South African National Blood Service will also conduct a blood drive and their station will be located at the Woolworths court. There will be many participating stores in the mall offering various prizes for those who shave or colour their hair.

The donation received from shaving and colouring of hair is used by Cansa to provide a care and support service to the public and all people affected by cancer.

If you want to donate your hair or ponytail, only 25cm of it is cut off.

Hair that is dyed or bleached can also be donated; however, hair clean and free of chemical treatments is preferred as this produces a higher quality wig. Dreadlocks cannot be used.

The event will take place from 9am.
