Don’t let your car become a shop for thieves

RANDBURG – The police are urging the public not leave their valuables on display after a few reported incidents of theft.

Randburg police are urging the public to be vigilant and not leave their belongings in view after a few reported incidents of theft from motor vehicles.

In the late afternoon of 9 February, a victim of one of these incidents parked and left her vehicle at the corner of Peter Place and Main Road in Bryanston.

She said the windows and doors of her car were properly closed and locked.

When she returned, electrical appliances had been stolen from her vehicle. The car door had been damaged.

Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja, is warning the public to keep their valuables safe.

Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “On that background, we still appeal to our community not to leave valuables inside their vehicles, whether at home during the night or day, as the incidents happen everywhere.

“We further appeal to second-hand goods dealers not to buy stolen property, as that increases and encourages criminal activities. And also, if found, they will be arrested for being in possession of stolen property and prosecuted.

“Do not buy any stolen or suspected stolen property.”
