IR Griffith Primary School recently collected water to donate to animals affected by the Cape Town drought.
The school’s head of department, Lizel Tonkin said the city was experiencing a severe water shortage due to the lack of rain, “There are also water restrictions that have even affected our four-legged friends.”
She explained the school has always opened their hearts and wallets to a charitable cause.
So when the learners and parents were asked to donate water to be sent to Cape Town to help the animals, everyone pitched in.
“We had only three days to bring in as much bottled water as we could so that it could be shipped to Cape Town”.
Those three days was more than enough time and learners, parents and staff donated gallons of water.
“The water that is sent to Cape Town will be used to help all types of animals,” said Tonkin.
“Water is an essential resource, and it is only when we don’t have it that we realise how essential it actually is. Save water as much as possible.”
