With so many officials being arrested or suspended in the City of Johannesburg, do you think it will affect wards and residents in any way and how?
Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, answered:
It will most certainly affect our residents. Our Mayor Herman Mashaba has made it clear on many occasions that he will clean the city’s administration and that is exactly what he is doing. Arrested or suspended officials were involved in some way or form in suspected wrongdoing. One cannot expect a high degree of service delivery from suspected officials.
Part of the drive to clean the administration is to replace corrupt and underperforming officials with individuals who can and want to do what is expected of a professional city administration.
Residents should expect a gradual improvement in service delivery. This is, however, an ongoing process and there are many things we still have to do to normalise service delivery in our city.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), as the governing party, has vowed to root out corruption and give residents value for their hard-earned money. We face many challenges in this endeavour but remain committed to our manifesto that got us elected to office.
