Ambulance attacked while on duty in Honeydew informal settlement

HONEYDEW – Bricks thrown at ambulance.

After two men allegedly threw bricks at an EMS ambulance on 5 February, which was transporting a maternity patient at the time, witnesses of the incident are urged to come forward with any information to assist in the investigation.

The incident occurred in Honeydew informal settlement in the early hours of the morning.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg EMS, Robert Mulaudzi said the ambulance was attending to a maternity case in the area when two unknown men approached the ambulance while the crew was treating the patient at the back of the ambulance.

Mulaudzi said, “One of the two unknown men threw a brick at the back of the ambulance which in the process broke both the rear windows of the ambulance.”

The ambulance crew immediately drove out of the informal settlement and continued to transport the patient to a hospital in Krugersdorp for further medical care.

“The ambulance crew together with the patient survived the incident unharmed.”

The incident was reported at Honeydew Police Station for further investigation.

“We want to urge our residents to report the attack of the paramedics to their nearest police station as this barbaric conduct by few criminal elements within our communities not only put the lives of other communities members at risk but also created panic and fear to the EMS personnel who are supposed to render this important essential service to our communities.”
