WATCH: 11 facts you should know about the Cape Town animal water drive

BLAIRGOWRIE – One Small Act of Kindness raised 60 tons of water with the help of the community for animal shelters hit by the Cape Town drought.

A water initiative started by One Small Act of Kindness has raised 60 tons of water for animal shelters affected by the current drought in Cape Town.

Although the initiative is still ongoing, the first load of water was packed onto a sponsored Gift of the Givers Foundation truck headed straight to Cape Town.

 

Here are 11 facts you need to know about the initiative:

  • The initiative was started by Blairgowrie resident Kelly-Ann van der Meer’s charity, One Small Act of Kindness
  • The water drive started on 25 January through a Facebook post on the charity’s page
  • By 29 January, the charity raised 60 tons of water
  • The aim of the drive is to assist about 1 500 animals in Cape Town animal shelters
  • Community members bought bottled water and were asked to collect 2L, 5L, 10L and 20L bottles of refilled water
  • The donated water would reach one animal shelter in Cape Town and then will be distributed to other shelters
  • This drive is solely for the animals of Cape Town
  • Community members from all parts of Joburg have joined in the initiative
  • The initiative will carry on for a few more weeks
  • Gift of The Givers Foundation sponsored the 30-ton truck that would make the drive to Cape Town
  • Schools from across Joburg were involved in the water drive.

To be part of this initiative, refill or buy bottled water and drop it off at the main drop-off point at 29 Pekin Avenue, Blairgowrie.
