JMPD officers survive attack by passengers

COSMO CITY – JMPD officers attacked during routine patrols

Public Safety MMC Michael Sun condemned the attack on Johannesburg Metro Police officers last weekend.

This incident occurred after the officers pulled over a minibus taxi in Cosmo City while they were on patrol duty on Saturday afternoon.

The minibus driver and his passengers became aggressive and attacked the officers. The suspects managed to disarm one of the officers and took his cellphone.

During the scuffle that ensued, two of the officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Milpark Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged. The third officer was not injured.

The incident is being investigated and all leads on the taxi driver and his accomplices will be followed up. The injured officers have since been discharged from the hospital.

Sun said the attack on the law enforcement officers while they are doing their jobs, is unacceptable.

He emphasised that bad behaviour of drivers would not be tolerated, whether it is aimed at officials or residents.

“These incidents will be investigated and the culprits arrested to face the consequence of their actions,” said Sun.
