Only one or two sad faces were seen but most children were already in the spirit of learning.

The school’s principal, Kerry McArthur, also welcomed her own daughter to the school on her first day of Grade 1.

McArthur said, “It has been a long journey that we are still on, but we are proud to see our youngest daughter start school.

“She is full of energy… She was even up earlier than us, eager to get to school.”

Avenir Private School is a new private school that is growing on a yearly basis since starting four years ago.

“It is so welcoming to see, not only new Grade 1s but plenty new faces in the other grades too… I definitely think our school is growing to a point where we will need bigger premises by next year.”

Proud dad, Harold McArthur, added, “I am feeling very old at the moment but it is so exciting for me.

“Just to see all these happy faces and parents saying goodbye for now is great anticipation for the year ahead.”
