PRAEGVILLE – It was a day of joy for women's hockey outfit Orange River Rafters at Randburg Sports Complex as they recorded their first victory of this season's Premier Hockey League.
Two goals from Rafter's captain Sulette Damons were enough to hand them all three points in a 2–1 win against TopT Madikwe Rangers.
In another women's division match, a brace from Kelly Reed powered the Private Property St Lucia Lakers to their second win of the season as they beat the iWYZE Namaqualand Daisies 3–1. The Tivoli Blyde River Bunters continued to dominate the table as they now sit on four wins from four matches following their win against Wineland Wings and TopT Madikwe Rangers.
In the men's tournament, the Mapungubwe Mambas made it three wins from three matches to remain top of the table. After beating iWYZE Golden Gate Gladiators on the opening weekend, they went on to beat the Garden Route Gazelles and Kilimanjaro Addo Elephants the following day without conceding any goals.
Mambas coach Krinesan Moodley believes the key to winning the tournament is to have a solid defence. His team has only conceded one goal while scoring 10 and have definitely set the standard in the men's division.
Reigning champions Crossroads Maropeng Cavemen put three unanswered goals past the Pro-Grip Drakensberg Dragons to go second on the table.
