Nigerian national killed when police released suspect

WINDSOR – A man was allegedly stabbed to death in Windsor East.

Pain, anger and a sense of loss could be felt as almost 100 Nigerian nationals stood, heartbroken, outside the Linden Police Station on the morning of 24 November.

They are reeling after one of their own, Mmaduabuchi Akabueze, was allegedly stabbed to death by a drunk man on the night of 23 November in Windsor East. The deceased is Nisha Camp’s brother-in-law and she is blaming the police for an incident that could have been prevented.

“It was an unprovoked incident as the drunken man came to cause a disturbance, ” she said. “When we tried to drive him away, he pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the men in the left buttock. He stabbed another man in the leg and threw a brick at another man, which hit him on the head.”

She added that after the two stabbing incidents, Linden’s patrol officers were called to the scene but alleged that they did not apprehend the suspect. They apparently told the suspect to go and cool off while telling the stab victims to accompany them to the police station.

“They let the man go but he came back for the third time, and this time, he killed my brother-in-law, a man who was law-abiding and very humble.

He has been in the country since 2014 and worked at a restaurant in Hillbrow. The police could have subdued the man who killed my brother-in-law and locked him up for the night, then none of this would have happened.”

Linden police spokesperson Captain Walter Spencer confirmed they were aware of the incident and he would be investigating the reason why the suspect was not arrested after the first incident and the root of the accusations against their police officers.
