A hole-in-one for charity

RANDPARK – Funds raised from events and golfing fines, among other things, are given to charities.

Worthy charities in the area received welcome donations to the value of R40 000.

An organisation that supports people suffering from terminal illness, 11 Angels , received R20 000 from the The Randpark Golf Club’s general manager, Francois Swart and former club captain, Greg Collier-Payne, who assisted in raising funds for the charity.

Tshepo Foundation, a non-profit that provides education, orphan assistance, healthcare for children and a social group for the elderly, received R10 000.

SPCA Randburg and Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce (Rocci), which assists small businesses, each received R5 000.

Swart said much of the money was raised through the Randpark Captain’s Fund which collected money from competitions and events, raffle draws, donations and golfing fines.

He explained the fines were for infractions during games and were given and received in good spirit. “We understand the privilege we have as a club and will always go the extra mile to assist where possible in the community,” Swart said.

He added that the captain chooses the charities.

“Randpark Captain’s Fund has been running for many years and used to support different charities in and around the community. The club also assists many other charities throughout the year with buy-in four-balls on golf days, donating prizes and hosting charity golf days to help raise funds.”
