Top 10 longest-serving African presidents

Robert Mugabe has followed in the footsteps of former Angolan president Jose Eduardo dos Santos by resigning as head of state.

After 37 years at the helm of Zimbabwean politics, Mugabe has called an end to his career following almost two weeks of confusion, hope and finally, celebration.

Mugabe is part of a list of long-serving African presidents and is the third longest-serving African president of all time.
