UPDATE: Residents still advised to be cautious

NORTH RIDING – Joburg Water gives update on North Riding water contamination.

Johannesburg Water has given an important update on the water issue in the North Riding area.

Isaac Dhludhlu of Johannesburg Water said, “We can confirm that no E.coli or other dangerous bacteria has been found in the water supply.”

Testing samples were taken from Honeydew and Cosmo City water reservoirs.

“However, we are still advising residents in the directly affected areas not to consume water until the second round of results come back from the lab.
“This is to ensure that we have two consecutive clean results. Residents can use water for all other purposes except consumption,” Dhludhlu continued.

Johannesburg Water has advised residents in the affected areas to use provided JoJo Tanks for water consumption until the second round of tests are clear.

A tank, from JoJo Tanks, is filled for fresh water consumption on Boundary Road.

According to Ward 134 councillor, Wendy Alexander the affected area is a one-block radius from Boundary Road, Aureole Avenue and Spionskop Road.

Dhludhlu said earlier that samples had been taken for laboratory testing.

This comes after Johannesburg Water investigated the possibility of suspected sewer contamination in the area.

According to Alexander, the contamination is said to have started after Johannesburg Water was fixing a water leak in the area.

Water tankers have been strategically placed on Boundary Road, Aureole Avenue and Spionskop Road and will remain available for affected residents as an alternative water supply.
