Linden police drug bust keeps weed off the streets

LINDEN — Linden police arrested a man after uncovering an illegal dagga-growing operation in Malanshof.

Linden police have uncovered an illegal drug growing operation in the Malanshof area.

Spencer said, “After inspecting the house in Malanshof, the officers discovered a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation happening in the garage.”

Masumpa added, “We found 26 marijuana plants with lights and extractor fans to help them grow.”

The officers arrested a Cameroonian man on a charge of illegal possession and growth of a controlled substance.

“The man claimed ownership of the plants, but swore they were for his personal and recreational use,” Masumpa continued.

“We have confiscated all the plants and transported them to the police station as evidence, and once the investigation is completed, they will be destroyed,”

Captain Alex Vermaak suggested, “When we think of drug labs, we think of them in dodgy and crime-ridden areas.

But something like this can happen in a suburb like Malanshof, around the corner from your house or even a school. It is of high importance that the community comes forward with information if they see suspicious activity.”

According to Spencer, it is unclear whether there are more houses in the area performing the same operations.

Police appeal to the public to give an anonymous tip-off if you are suspicious of illegal operations like this happening in your area.
