Rand Park High School sure does have talent

RANDPARK RIDGE – Rand Park High School shows just how talented it is as it hosted their annual school talent show.

Has Rand Park High School got talent? Well, it recently hosted its annual Rand Park’s Got Talent show and by the looks of things, the school is full it.

Held on 14 and 15 October, this year’s theme was Celebrate Your Talent and it was so themed to encourage children to embrace their talents, which had them use the stage as their platform to showcase what they can do in front of an appreciative audience.

After auditions and only three formal rehearsals, the show took to the stage. Tickets for the two shows sold fast and the sold-out school hall buzzed with anticipation for the 42 acts to follow.

The variety of talent was excellent and the audiences were entertained by poetry (some of which was self-written by the children), dancers (genres included contemporary, African, hip-hop, acro, popping and fight ballet), singers, magicians and soundtrack animation.

This year’s show was a particularly special one as it celebrated the passing over of the talent-baton from senior schoolchildren who are in matric this year, to their younger siblings who are juniors at the school.

Richard Kaldenberg performed with his sister, Lerise who is in Grade 8 and Tyla-Rae Lotter, who’s in Grade 9, sang with her brothers, Keagyn and Calvin Lotter, who will matriculate this year too. Kayuran Naidoo completed his fifth year of performing in this show by providing the piano accompaniment to an endearing short animation called Paper Man.

Offering opportunities to excel on stage is an important component of the school’s cultural programme.

As it develops so many soft skills in children, including self-confidence, empathy, communication, time-management skills and cooperating with others.
