Trinityhouse Northriding showed that learning can be made fun as they participated in the Junior Engineers for Africa (Jefa) workshop.
Public Relations Officer, Christelle Wolmarans, said there was no better way to learn than through play. She explained that Jefa arrived in full force with boxes of Lego ready to share their knowledge with the children of Trinityhouse. “All of the Jefa school workshops are designed to promote engineering and technology.”
Wolmarans also shared that one of the workshops for the day were crazy cranes in which the children were introduced to levers and pulleys. “The children were taught how to build a crane and other models which demonstrate pulleys,” said kWolmarans. She added that one of the best aspects of Jefa workshops was the way they engaged with every single child there.
On the day the children were able to answer the age-old question, what happens when you combine paper and pressure? “The children were introduced to the concept of pressure. In pairs, they built a paper crimper and a press as they explored pressure and how it is useful and used in our everyday lives.”
Wolmarans concluded that this event is looked forward to every year. “A visit from the Jefa team is never disappointing.”
