ANC’s bid to debate motion of no confidence in mayor and speaker struck off court roll

JOBURG – ANC loses bid for motion of no confidence debate in City of Joburg Mayor and Council Speaker.

The ANC’s urgent application to have a motion of no confidence debate in City of Joburg mayor Herman Mashaba and council speaker, Vasco Da Gama was struck off the roll by the South Gauteng High Court on the basis that it is not urgent.

The party launched an urgent application to have the motion debated today (27 September) during the council sitting and to also have votes conducted through a secret ballot.

The matter was heard by the court on 26 September and judge Sidwell Shangisa struck the matter off the court roll, on the basis that it was not urgent. The party was also slapped with a cost order.

The ANC has vowed to approach the Constitutional Court on an urgent basis, to get an order that will force the council to have the motion debated and also voted through a secret ballot.

This is a developing story. Updates to follow.
