Where to park to avoid congestion at the Spar Women’s Race Joburg

EMMARENTIA – Marks Park Sports Club and Roosevelt High School have spots available for parking.

With 16 000 runners expected for the Spar Women’s Race Joburg on 8 October, there are a few ways and places you can park your car to avoid congestion before taking on Joburg’s most beautiful race.

Organisers have asked runners to arrive early, and share lifts to limit the number of vehicles on the road.

A large parking map, and directions to the parking areas can be found on the Spar race information webpage at www.spar.co.za.

Recommended parking areas:

  • Parking areas B, C and D are available to all on a first-come, first-serve basis. Access is on Orange Road and Louw Geldenhuys Drive. Marshals in the area can direct you there and help you enter and leave the parking area.
  • Roosevelt High School, off Thomas Bowler Road, is parking area F. Access will be open from 5am, but parking will cost R50 per vehicle. There are 300 parking spots. These will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Parking area A is available for VIPs, the disabled, and management and emergency services. Access is at the Marks Park main gate on Judith Road. Again, marshals will be on hand for assistance.

Included in the event is the Drop off a Pair, Show you Care campaign that Spar and Caxton Local Media co-host. The initiative collects running shoes for those in need. So participants are asked to bring their old, almost old or newish running shoes to one of Caxton’s Joburg branches or to the race. Race tickets can be bought online at www.spar.co.za and at most Spar stores.

Proceeds from the event will go to Reach for Recovery, a support group for women with breast cancer.

Details: Caxton’s Joburg offices are situated at 368 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall, and 1 187 Cornelius Street, Weltevreden Park.
