WATCH: Wolf in sheep’s clothing steals handbag from 66-year-old woman

RANDPARK RIDGE – Randburg Bowling Club is extremely disappointed and hope to find the suspect.

A seemingly friendly man was caught on CCTV footage stealing a handbag from a 66-year-old woman at Randburg Bowls Club.

Former president of the club, Ray Turner condemned the incident which happened on 5 August at 6pm. “The clubs grounds do not belong to us, they are council grounds so unfortunately we are not able to turn anyone away.

“He was friendly and chatted to me and a couple members for a while, so we did not suspect a thing,” said Turner.

The CCTV footage clearly shows the suspect in question talking to the victim. She then leaves the main clubhouse and walks outside. The suspect then indecisively walks in and out of the club door.

He returned inside, looked around, grabbed the handbag and quickly exited the premises.

Honeydew Police Station’s Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs confirmed that a case of theft has been opened.

Police will collect the video footage in due course.

“He was a well dressed friendly guy. We welcome new visitors so it did not cross our mind to make him leave for not being a member of the bowling club.

“It makes me really angry because now we may have to make our admissions policy stricter.”

He added that it was obvious, when viewing the footage, that the suspect had his eyes on the handbag the whole time.

Honeydew police are urging the community to come forward with any information regarding the incident or suspect.
