Sharonlea Primary School’s house teams show their spirit to welcome in third term

SHARONLEA – A local school hosted a successful sports day which showcased the talents of its athletes.

The third term was ushered in at Sharonlea Primary School with a sporting event to rival all others.

The school’s house teams, Lancelot (yellow), Galahad (blue), Valiant (green) and Arthur (red), put their best athletes forward in hopes to walk away victorious. Peers and parents at the event watched as the Valiant took home the winning trophy.

On the day, athletes took part in various events including the 80m sprints and the 4x80m relays, which was the highlight of the day. Parents showcased their athletic skills as they competed against the teachers in a relay event.

Teachers for the Lancelot House, Kendall Gilbert, Amanda Nourse, Caitlin Camp, Alan Lancaster and sports co-ordinator, Jocelyn McCrea.

The school’s sports co-ordinator, Jocelyn McCrea said, “This event is the cherry on top for everyone as from here we choose our school team that will compete against schools within the region. Our first meeting being on 2 August.”

McCrea explained that in the last week of July the school hosted an athletics clinic which sought to improve the athlete’s techniques.

“Sports is very important at this age as it helps with motor skills and spacial development. Children need to be active, especially now as children are so consumed with technological devices.

“They need to be out in the sun climbing trees, being physical, and having fun.”
